Uniforms & Neckties
Another ‘found footage’ music video, but explicitly so this time. The song is, in part, a rant against the rampant narcissism of the social media generation, so the original concept of the video was to regurgitate user-generated online content like visual vomit. It evolved into a wider journey through the web taking in googlemaps, viral videos, historical newsreels, retro TV and amateur porn with the lyrics providing reference points at each juncture.
This one was even more morally dubious than Love is a Lie particularly with the social media aspect and I was slightly concerned that those featured would be appalled to be so but many who recognised themselves in the footage responded by Like-ing, sharing and retweeting… which almost illustrates the point better than the video alone possibly could.
